HOUSTON, TX (August 3, 2026) – Physicians for Palestine announces it has reached a significant milestone in its Prosthetics for Palestine Program with the successful delivery of its first shipment of customized prosthetic limbs to the Artificial Limb and Polio Center (ALPC) in Gaza.
“We are excited about the successful completion of the program’s pilot phase and the beginning of a long-term initiative to expand access to high-quality prosthetic and rehabilitation care for amputees in Gaza,” said Dr. Ruba Sarsour, Physician for Palestine Board Member.
This important milestone reflects more than the successful delivery of prosthetic limbs; it marks the beginning of a comprehensive, long-term approach to rehabilitation care, building a comprehensive program centered on individualized care, rehabilitation, clinical education, research, and long-term follow-up, an approach designed to restore mobility, independence, dignity, and hope while strengthening prosthetic care for future generations.

From the beginning, Physicians for Palestine recognized that Gaza requires solutions tailored to its unique healthcare realities.
The prosthetic limbs selected for the pilot are FDA-cleared devices that have demonstrated exceptional durability in demanding environments, including those used by agricultural workers in Mexico. Their proven performance in extreme heat, dust, and rigorous daily use provided confidence in their durability, while acknowledging that Gaza presents distinct clinical and environmental challenges that require careful evaluation.
Many amputations have occurred and continue to happen under difficult and emergency conditions, often resulting in complex residual limb injuries that differ significantly from those encountered in traditional healthcare settings. Patients also face severely damaged infrastructure, uneven terrain, sand, rubble, and limited rehabilitation resources; factors that require prosthetic solutions adapted specifically for Gaza rather than simply applying technologies developed for other environments.
To ensure the program’s long-term viability, Physicians for Palestine intentionally launched the pilot with three carefully selected patients. Each participant completed a comprehensive clinical assessment and individualized measurement process before fabrication to help ensure the best possible fit and function. Those patients’ lives are now transformed through this unique program.
“With the prosthetic limbs now successfully delivered to Gaza, rehabilitation specialists at ALPC will begin fitting each customized prosthesis, making necessary adjustments, initiating rehabilitation, and closely monitoring patient outcomes,” said Dr. Hanaa Eadeh, President of Physicians for Palestine
Throughout this phase, the rehabilitation team will evaluate comfort, mobility, durability, and day-to-day function while documenting lessons that refine future prosthetic designs, rehabilitation protocols, and clinical practices before the program expands to additional patients.
This deliberate approach reflects Physicians for Palestine’s commitment to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.

What distinguishes the Prosthetics for Palestine Program is its commitment to supporting patients throughout their rehabilitation journey.
For Physicians for Palestine, the delivery of a prosthetic limb is the beginning of each patient’s rehabilitation journey. Ongoing follow-up, clinical evaluation, rehabilitation, and continuous improvement ensures commitment to continuum and quality of care. Every lesson learned during the pilot phase will strengthen future phases of the program while helping ensure the highest quality care possible.
The vision also extends beyond direct patient care. The Prosthetics for Palestine Program is being developed around three interconnected pillars:
For Physicians for Palestine, every prosthetic limb is more than a medical device; it represents an opportunity to restore mobility, dignity, independence, and hope to the people who need it most.
As the Prosthetics for Palestine Program continues to evolve and grow, this milestone lays the foundation for a sustainable model of rehabilitation care built on clinical excellence, collaboration, and an enduring commitment to the people of Gaza.
