Our biggest challenge is maintaining continuous standard of medical care after the projects are completed. Other challenges include maintenance of medical equipment that are donated. We have political walls that hinder medical care. It can be challenging delivering medical supplies there and approving specific projects. Finding the right people for the specific missions locally can also be challenging.
Other challenges include treating a subset of patients that care is not available. For example, certain cancers require patients leaving Palestine and getting care in Israel or abroad. Chronic kidney disease that leads to dialysis routinely required a catheter placement and do hemodialysis. We are in the process of creating a peritoneal dialysis program, training vascular surgeons to place the catheter and nephrologist to maintain peritoneal dialysis. Certain strokes that require mechanical thrombectomies were not routinely available.
